CASCADES OF ICE
The Varaita Valley with its secondary valleys certainly has the most cascades and couloirs fantasma in the province of Cuneo.
The climate, the exposure and the high elevation maintain best ice conditions until spring, and even in periods of rising temperatures the classical cascades can be approached safely.
The easy access allows the ascent even after the snowfalls and makes it possible to string together several routes in a single day.
Hence the valley is an excellent, diversified playground for the enthusiasts of cascade climbing, for both beginners and experts of alpinism.
